At First Church we are always looking for ways to make a positive difference in the lives of our members and the world around us. For a number of years we have managed three funds to assist those in need in our community.
The Bethlehem Fuel Bank ~ This fund provides assistance with oil, propane, electricity and emergency furnace repair. A helping hand was given to nearly 60 families this past season, providing over $16,000 in assistance.
The Bethlehem Assistance Fund ~ Aid from this fund to residents-in-emergencies happens quickly. Requests are specific in nature for urgent, critical needs ranging from $50 to $250. In the past year we have helped over 20 families with auto repairs, food, medical and utility bills, distributing over $2,700 in assistance.
The Bethlehem Scholarship Fund ~ The Bethlehem Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to graduating seniors who reside in Bethlehem, regardless of the high school they attend. The seniors must be planning to continue their education, whether in college, nursing, technical or vocational programs. The contributions received each year form the scholarships for that year. This determines the total number and amounts of scholarships.
In addition to helping out locally, our missions work reaches out to those in need around the world. Through organizations like Church World Service, Heifer International, Neighbors in Need, and Simply Smiles, we strive to make this world a better place for us all to live in.
